Serving with the heart. House of Prayer for All Nations Prayer Book
Author’s Preface
The primary purpose of the seven universal commandments is to correct our world, to establish truth, justice, and order within it—between individuals, families, and entire nations. As it is written: “Thus says the Lord, the Creator of the heavens; He is God, the Creator of the earth; He made it and prepared it—He did not create it for chaos, but for habitation He created it. I am the Lord, and there is none else.” Moreover, on a personal level, if one looks deeply into oneself, these seven commandments of the descendants of Noah allow each person to see their personal mission—the purpose for which the Almighty created them. Finding this mission is in itself a blessing from the Almighty, and proper behavior connects a person with their Creator. This faith and awareness require constant expression. This is the essence of prayer.
Prayer—a duty for every believer—constantly reminds them of their connection with the Creator. Its central theme is a request for the satisfaction of one’s essential needs, both spiritual and material, beginning with the most basic. Spiritual needs are the search for answers to the most pressing questions of existence: “Who am I?”, “Why do I exist?”, “What is my mission in life, my purpose in this world?”, “How do I fulfill it?”
Material needs are a complete recognition that everything is in the power of Heaven, that the Creator personally oversees every element of the universe, and provides everyone with everything they need, always and continually. The significance of prayer is that it gives a person the opportunity to express themselves before God and to converse with Him. It makes the relationship with the Almighty closer and more open, literally bringing it closer to inner feelings, making them more truthful. Prayer strengthens faith in the Almighty, and it is the best way for anyone to fulfill the commandment of faith in God. Faith is not only in the heart, but also in constant thoughts, speech, and actions. True faith is expressed in everything throughout a person’s life. In principle, one must live by faith. And one who prays not only expresses faith in God by pouring out their problems and needs from their heart, but also thanks Him for all the good things He has bestowed upon us. Moreover, through prayer, a person surrenders themselves into the hands of the Almighty and connects with Him through words, devotion, and turning their heart to Him.
Prayer is a special time of meditation, reflection on God, his greatness, kindness and his other qualities; everyone can walk the humble paths, the special paths of the Almighty.
